Chris Naylor of A Rocha Lebanon conducted a preliminary base line survey of birds from the months of October 2001 to February 2002 (5 visits made). Preliminary observations were presented at the conference convened in Beirut in January 2002 and highlighted the importance for the site for avifauna.
During visits, field notes were made on other groups of fauna and flora. The most notable discovery was the presence of Galanthus fostrei (the snowdrop) previously thought to be extinct in Lebanon.
